NOAA has increased the annual catch limit and quota for commercial and recreational red grouper fisheries

Commercial and recreational fishermen in the Gulf of Mexico can now catch more red grouper.
NOAA Fisheries has increased the annual catch limit and quota for both commercial and recreational fishermen.

Commercial fishermen will see the annual quota increase from 5.7 million pounds to nearly 8.2 million pounds.

The increase in quota will provide commercial fishermen an increase in their Individual Fishing Quota allocations.

For recreational fishermen the annual catch target will increase from about 1.7 million pounds to nearly 2.4 million pounds.

The increase will allow the recreational fishing season for red grouper to remain open yearlong instead of closing late in the season.

The increased quotas began Wednesday.
