Local
public school students return to school this week but it could be
another month before the Nest after-school program gets started.
The
Nest program provides a variety of academic and enrichment services
FREE of charge to students from Kindergarten through the 12th
grade including homework
assistance, Art, Music, Technology and recreation.
The
five year after-school Program Grant ended this year.
The
First United Methodist Church of Eastpoint is now partnering with the
Franklin County School District to continue the program and has
applied for a new grant under the name UMC Youth and Children Center
- Nest.
The
earliest that the school district will know if the grant was approved
is September 1st.
And
if the grant is awarded, the new program will begin around September
15th.
The
school district says it will continue to update parents as the grant
process is finalized.
