Traffic Shift on Wakulla Springs Road at Oak Ridge Road

Chipley, FL – Traffic on State Road (S.R.) 61 (Wakulla Springs Road) will be shifted on to temporary pavement at the intersection of County Road 2204 (Oak Ridge Road) around 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17 as crews begin roundabout work. The flashing signal will be removed and the intersection will become a four-way stop configuration. The speed limit on S.R. 61 will be reduced to 45 MPH. Variable message boards and signs are in place to alert drivers of construction and to direct motorists through the work area.
Two lanes of traffic will be maintained during construction. This traffic diversion will be in place for approximately three months. Access to driveways and business entrances will be maintained.

The roundabout includes drainage improvements, sidewalks, curb and gutter, landscaping, and lighting. The project also includes road resurfacing, guardrail replacement, and minor drainage improvements from the Wakulla County line to south of S.R. 369 (U.S. 319). Work is scheduled to be complete summer 2019.

All planned construction activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Motorists are reminded to pay attention to the speed limit when traveling through the construction area, to watch for construction equipment entering and leaving the roadway, and to use caution when driving through the work zone, especially at night. Speeding fines are doubled when workers are present.
