There is still time to harvest Bay Scallops in Gulf County

There are still a few weeks left to harvest bay scallops in the St. Joe Bay so if you haven't been yet, you need to get out there.

The St. Joe Bay will remain open for scalloping through September 30th - that includes all state waters from the Mexico Beach Canal in Bay County through the westernmost point of St. Vincent Island in Franklin County.
The bay scallop population in St. Joe Bay appears to be improving, but is not yet fully recovered from the impacts of a red tide event in 2015 that decimated the scallop population.
Ongoing restoration efforts are continuing through the season and there is a small section of the bay south of Black’s Island which is being used as a restoration area.
The area is marked with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission buoys.
The restoration area is off-limits to swimming, boating, fishing and scalloping

If you do go scalloping in Gulf County waters remember the daily bag limit is 2 gallons of whole bay scallops in the shell or 1 pint of bay scallop meat per person, with a maximum of 10 gallons of whole bay scallops in shell or 1/2 gallon bay scallop meat per vessel.
