Florida
residents on the SNAP program can now order groceries on-line.
SNAP
is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and nearly 3
million Floridians take part in it.
The
Program generally allows participants to purchase food at grocery
stores but last week Florida asked for a waiver that would also allow
people to purchase groceries on-line.
The
request was approved as a pilot program allowing SNAP households to
purchase food online and pay using their EBT card at pickup.
The
program is already working in 6 other states.
The
program will hopefully reduce shopping risk from COVID-19, help
fulfill consumer demand, and keep Florida-grown products moving to
families.
The
state is also working to implement the Pandemic EBT program, which
will allow families whose children are eligible for free and
reduced-price school lunch to receive SNAP benefits.
