Franklin and Gulf Counties have issued burn bans until our area gets some much needed rainfall

Franklin and Gulf Counties have issued burn bans until our area gets some much needed rainfall.

Our area has not received any appreciable rainfall in weeks making conditions ripe for wildfires.

Forestry officials have already seen major wildfires in the panhandle including in Gulf and Wakulla Counties.

The burn bans prohibit all outdoor burning of yard trash, household paper products, bonfires, campfires, warming fires and cooking fires.

There is an exception for above ground, self-contained cooking grills that are attended to and monitored by responsible adults.

The use of charcoal briquettes is allowed as long as the briquettes are thoroughly extinguished with water after use.

If you have any questions you can contact the Franklin County Emergency Management Office at 850-653-8977.
