Franklin County commissioners have
agreed to support a request to reopen vacation rental homes in
Florida.
State Representative Jason Shoaf asked
for the county's support as he and 7 other Florida House Members
lobby the governor to reopen short term vacation rental homes as he
has already done for hotels and timeshares.
Shoaf said “we are a little different
here in the panhandle” as we don't have any big resorts, and were
not well represented on the governor's re-opening committee.
Shoaf said he is also approaching Gulf
and Wakulla Counties to support the move.
Commissioners also heard from a number
of citizens who also supported the move – many pointed out that
potential renters are now making reservations in Alabama where the
rental homes are already open.
Commissioner Smokey Parrish pointed out
that while the county supports the move to open rental homes that
things are not “back to normal.”
Vacation rental companies will have to
encourage renters to adhere to safety measure and residents and
visitors alike have to be responsible and continue to take safety
measures to protect themselves and others from COVID-19.
