The Franklin County Commission plans to
start livestreaming its meetings beginning on May the 19th.
The commission agreed this month to
enter into an agreement with Forgotten Coast TV to broadcast its
meetings live over the internet.
The public is not allowed to attend the
meetings in person at this time because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently the commission uses an
audio-only service which allows people to comment during the meeting
but it is very expensive.
County coordinator Michael Moron said
adopting the live stream will allow people to watch the meeting,
which is what most people want to do.
Those people who want to comment will
still be able to use the audio only service, but the price will drop
because fewer people will be using it.
The county has agreed to pay Forgotten
Coast TV 500 dollars per meeting for the next 6 months, which will
allow the company to pay for the equipment.
After that they will renegotiate the
price.
The hope is the equipment will be used
for other public meetings too.
