Franklin County commissioners have agreed to send a letter of support for Gulf County to get funding for a dry dock and ship repair facility at the St. Joe Port.
Funding for the project would come from the TRIUMPH board , which was created to distribute money and fines collected after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Gulf County is asking for about 26 million dollars for construction of the floating dry dock to facilitate an ongoing ship repair and haul out facility on deepwater property in Port St. Joe.
Franklin County Commissioners said they think the project would be beneficial to the area and would hopefully bring high paying jobs to residents in Gulf and Franklin Counties.
Commissioners were also asked to include a $5,000,000 commitment of Franklin County’s Triumph Allocation to the project, but said they did not feel that was necessary as TRIUMPH would be able to fund the project if it chooses to.
In the past, TRIUMPH has been able to fund multi-county projects as long as they find the project to be of a benefit to the area.
