Franklin County Commissioners on Tuesday opened qualifications from five companies interested in providing construction engineering and inspection services for the widening and resurfacing improvements on County Road 30A.

That project will extend about 5.3 miles from Highway 98 to Thirteen Mile Road and includes widening the existing roadway from 22’ to 24’ and resurfacing the existing travel lanes.

It will also add 5’ wide paved shoulders, drainage improvements, and upgraded signage and pavement markings.

The 3.6 million dollar project is being funded through the Florida Department of Transportation and construction is expected to begin next year.

The qualifications opened on Tuesday will now be considered by a committee who will bring a recommendation to the next Franklin County Commission meeting.
