Businesses in Franklin County are being warned to look out for counterfeit money

Businesses in Franklin County are being warned to look out for counterfeit money.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office issued the alert this week.

The sheriff's office said they were recently called by a local business saying counterfeit $100 bills were used in a transaction.

Similar alerts have been issued in recent weeks from Wakulla and Gulf Counties for fake 20 dollar bills.

The money may appear to be legitimate but it has the word “copy” printed on the back.

Make sure you check cash to prevent being a victim.

Anyone who receives a counterfeit bill is asked not to return the bills but to call the sheriff’s office immediately at 850-670-8500.

Passing counterfeit money is a 3rd degree felony which is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
