Franklin County commissioners have decided to extend the process of seeking a new airport manager for the Apalachicola airport

Franklin County commissioners have decided to extend the process of seeking a new airport manager for the Apalachicola airport.

The Board last week was expected to review qualifications from people interested in applying for the airport manager position until they learned that Ted Mosteller, who is filling that job temporarily, was one of the three applicants for the job.

The problem is that Mister Mosteller helped with the creation of the advertising for the position and with the selection of the review committee, which commissioners felt was an unfair advantage.

They did not know that Ted intended to apply for the job while the qualifications were being drawn up.

The board found itself with two choices; they could either bar Mister Mosteller from applying, or they could reject all of applicants and start the process over.

The board decided to reject all applicants and restart the process in 60 days, giving county staff time to rewrite the qualifications in the hopes that it attracts even more people to apply for the position.

They will also create a new review committee without Mister Mosteller's input.

Ted will continue to serve as the interim airport manager until the process is finished.
