Red Tide continues to be found in local waters, but it does seem to be clearing up.
Red Tide is an organism known a Karenia Brevis that in large enough concentrations releases a neurotoxin that can kill fish and even affect people.
It was first found in local waters in late September and at one point was killing thousands of fish and keeping people away from the beaches.
On Friday the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission released its most recent testing information – water samples were taken on November 29th and December 1st.
Red Tide was found in very low concentrations in water samples taken from Alligator Harbor and Bald Point.
Red Tide was found in background concentrations at Bald Point and St. Vincent Point.
There were no positive samples of red tide in Gulf County and only background concentrations at Ochlocknee Point in Wakulla County.
