The Dixie Theatre in Apalachicola has received 6000 dollars to help make up for lost revenue because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The money is “American Rescue Plan” COVID Relief Funding provided through Florida Humanities, the statewide, nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The grants are intended to meet immediate operational needs in order for organizations to remain viable and maintain delivery of public humanities programming and resources in their communities

The historic Dixie Theatre has been closed to the public since cancelling their final event in March 2020.

They have still not decided when they will reopen for live performances.

Dixie Partington, Producing Director of the Dixie Theatre Foundation called the American Rescue Plan funding a “lifeline” and said the group is beyond grateful for the support.

The Dixie Theatre Foundation was one of 129 organizations in Florida that was awarded ARP funding totaling $1.88 million dollars.

The Dixie Theatre is North Florida’s oldest Theatre celebrating over 100 years in Apalachicola.
