Panama City, Fla. (Jan. 18, 2022) -- Ascension Sacred Heart Bay in Panama City, Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast in Miramar Beach and Ascension Sacred Heart Gulf in Port St. Joe are seeing an increase in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.
The number of hospitalized patients fluctuates frequently, so any individual data points are only a moment-in-time snapshot. But here are a few key statistics for today, Jan.18:
There are a total of 47 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in the three Ascension Sacred Heart hospitals in Bay, Walton and Gulf counties. The number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 one week ago was 30 in the three hospitals.
The most COVID positive patients we had admitted to our three hospitals, collectively, during the Delta variant surge was 154 patients on Aug. 19.
Among all of the Ascension Sacred Heart hospitals in Northwest Florida, most of the people hospitalized with COVID-19 are not vaccinated.
We cannot stress enough the importance of getting vaccinated including a booster shot for those who are eligible. Ascension Sacred Heart believes the approved COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective and the benefits of being vaccinated outweigh any identified risks or side effects.
Ascension Sacred Heart understands that some may have concerns about the vaccine. If you have questions, reach out to your doctor and talk to them about it. Many healthcare providers are knowledgeable and equipped to address any questions and concerns you may have.
Everyone in our community plays a critical role in keeping us safe from this virus. The most effective ways of protecting each other are to get vaccinated, wear masks in public indoor spaces and get tested if you have symptoms. These steps protect you, your loved ones and the community.
Ascension Sacred Heart Bay is not operating any community testing clinics. Some Ascension Sacred Heart Medical Group offices in the area offer testing to their patients with symptoms. We encourage persons with symptoms of COVID-19 to reach out to their healthcare provider for testing of COVID-19 and management of non-emergency symptoms.
