Two men died Monday in an early morning crash in Gulf County

Two men died Monday in an early morning crash in Gulf County.

A 33 year old man from Wewahitchka and a 33 year old man from Naples were killed when they pulled in front of tractor/trailer on Highway 71.

The Highway patrol said the two men were heading north on Highway 71 in a gray Ford F-150 at about 5:15 this morning when they began to turn onto Stone Mill Creek Road.

They pulled in front of a southbound Kensworth Tractor Trailer.

The driver of the tractor trailer attempted hard braking and tried to steer to the right to avoid the collision but was unable to.

The tractor trailer collided with the passenger side of the truck, ejecting the passenger and partially ejecting the driver, neither of whom were wearing seat belts.

The southbound lane of Highway 71 was closed for 2 hours as approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled out at the scene.

The highway patrol was assisted at the scene by Gulf County EMS, Gulf County fire Department and the Wewahitchka Fire Department.
