Vrooman Park in Eastpoint will be getting some pretty major upgrades in the near future

Vrooman Park in Eastpoint will be getting some pretty major upgrades in the near future.

Franklin County has received a $200,000 grant agreement from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for the Vrooman Park Improvements Project.

Five years ago, the county received a $50,000 FRDAP grant to add the T-ball field, improve the playground and pavilion.

This phase will fund drainage improvements for the two primary fields which will require a substantial amount of fill, sod, and clay.

It will also pay to replace the irrigation system for the two fields, replace the perimeter fencing with the drainage improvements, renovate the batting cage and dugouts, and build a 6’ access sidewalk for those with mobility impairments to be able to easily access the park facilities.

The county will first need to develop the design and bid specifications for the drainage improvements and sidewalk construction and then bid out the project.

The county will seek community input on the project, and could form an advisory committee to coordinate the work schedule around ball season, and to get input on other project elements.
