Governor Ron DeSantis was at the Franklin County Courthouse in Apalachicola on Wednesday to unveil a statue of Benjamin Franklin.
Wednesday was the 238th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution.
Franklin County was founded in 1832; It was named for Benjamin Franklin.
This Franklin statue is the latest feature in Florida’s America250 commemorations.
The event marked the second in a series of statue unveilings planned across Florida counties named for America’s founders.
A statue of Thomas Jefferson was unveiled in Jefferson County earlier this year.
Statues will also be installed in Washington, Hamilton, Madison, and Monroe Counties over the next year.
Governor DeSantis underscored Benjamin Franklin’s legacy as the quintessential American who embodied the spirit of American ingenuity.
The Governor also emphasized Franklin’s commitment to civic duty and his belief that an engaged and educated citizenry is the cornerstone of liberty in our republican system of government.
The Governor was joined in the unveiling by Florida Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins, Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd and Visit Florida President & CEO Bryan Griffin.
