Built in 1849 to guide ships away from dangerous shoals, the Cape San Blas Lighthouse has faced hurricanes and erosion, leading to its reconstruction and relocation. The current 98-foot iron tower, built in 1883, was a strategic response to the sea's encroachment. Thanks to the efforts of various organizations, the lighthouse is preserved at George Core Park in Port St. Joe and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.


The St. Joseph Historical Society, along with local support, highlights the community's dedication to preserving this historic beacon.
