Apalachicola Bay Charter School profits from flying mullets
The Blue Parrot Restaurant held its 18th annual test of mullet aerodynamics on Saturday. The turnout was impressive, but unfortunately strong headwinds kept the contestants from breaking any distance records during this year’s contest. This year’s winner in Men’s Division was Hunter Bartley of Apalachicola who tossed a mullet over 128 feet. That’s not quite as far as last year’s winner, and still far short of Stan Grant’s standing record of 211 feet. Laura Keinsey won first place in the woman’s division for a second year in a row with a throw of 87.2 feet. 1st Place in the Under 12 Division went to Nick Joanos of St. George Island for his 72 foot throw. Seth Rogers continued his winning ways in the 12 to 16 age group for what may have been his 3rd consecutive winning toss – this year he threw a mullet nearly 100 feet. The Freestyle Division was won by Team Tugley who launched a mullet about 428 feet. It was an impressive piece of flying, but still far below the freestyle record of 533 feet. Each of the winners won cash for their efforts. All of the money raised through Saturday’s event will help at the Apalachicola Bay Charter School.
