State to provide easier access to food stamps and Medicaid to FRanklin County residents
People who need to apply for food stamps, Medicaid and other state health services will soon be able to go to a local office to do so. The Department of Children and Families plans to provide a full-time eligibility worker in Franklin County to help local people get state assistance. It will be the first time since 1998 that the service will be offered in Franklin County – currently people either have to apply on-line or travel to Tallahassee or Panama City for assistance. Because of that nearly half of the people in the county who are eligible for some type of assistance like Medicaid have not applied. The assistance should be available in Franklin County by July the 15th; the office will be located at the Apalachicola Health Department building.
