Tourist Development Council has money for local non-profit groups

With the county looking at big budget cuts next year, non-profits in Franklin County may want to look into grants from the Local Tourist Development Council. The group, which collects money from every short term rental in the county, provides a portion of their funds every year to help cover operational expenses for non-profit groups through two separate grant programs. The Off Season Grant program helps promote tourism-based events and activities like festivals. The Sustaining Grants Program helps supplement operating expenses for tourism-related facilities or museums which promote Franklin County's history, culture and nature. Last year the TDC funded $75,000 for Off-Season Grant awards and $100,000 for sustaining grants. This year the Council plans to provide $180,000 for the grant programs and another $20,000 for publicity of events. Grant applications will be accepted beginning July 3rd. The deadline for returning applications is August 3rd. Groups can download an application at www.antauralescape.com or pick up a copy at the council’s office at 17 and a half Avenue E in Apalachicola.
