County touts success of discount drug program
Franklin County commissioners say that a prescription drug discount program in which Franklin County takes part has been very successful. The discount drug program began over two years ago as a joint effort between the county commission and the National Association of Counties. Commissioners say that since that time over 12 thousand people have taken advantage of the program saving over 245 thousand dollars on prescription drug prices. The discount drug program is open to anyone - the program can save you up to 20 percent on your prescription drug costs if you don’t already have insurance and it can be used by anyone in your family any time their prescription is not covered by an insurance plan. Both CVS and Buy-Rite in Apalachicola honor the discount cards. The cards are free – they are available through local doctor’s offices and at the local hospital – so make sure to ask next time you have a doctor’s visit. Commissioners say they feel a lot of local residents are unaware of the program but feel the cards can be very useful, especially now that people are watching their finances very closely.
