Local soldier killed in Afghanistan
A soldier with ties to Franklin County was killed in Afghanistan last week. 20 year old Lance Corporal Seth Sharp was killed Thursday, just six weeks after arriving in Afghanistan. He was serving in Company E of the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines. Seth was killed during Operation Strike of the Sword, the latest push by the United States Marine Corps against the Taliban. Seth grew up in Georgia, but spent his senior year in high school living in Alligator Point and attending Wakulla High School. He joined the Marines in late 2007 and served a number of months in Iraq before being redeployed to Afghanistan. He was in Alligator Point on leave just few months ago before beginning his new deployment. He is survived by his mother, Angela Sharp Preston and his stepfather Gus Preston as well as a 15 month old brother Alexander all of whom live in Alligator Point. His father and stepmother, Rick and Tiffany Sharp live in Adairesvile, Georgia and he had a fiance’ who is attending college in Gainesville, Georgia.
