County seeks contractors for local sidewalk projects

County commissioners are preparing to choose contractors for three sidewalk projects in Franklin County that are being funded through federal stimulus dollars. One sidewalk will be built along Bluff Road in Apalachicola two others will be built in the commercial district of St. George Island. The county is currently taking bids from contractors who wish to design and build the sidewalks and expect to award the bids on September the 28th. County planner Allen Pierce said he has heard from a number of contractors interested in the jobs but he’s not sure how many will submit bids because of the thick list of federal rules and guidelines and the relatively short amount of time they are given to finish the work. Once the projects are awarded, the contractors will have until December the 31st to complete them.
