Drainage problems apparent after heavy rains
Heavy rains over the past week are showing the county where it needs to work on drainage. County commissioners this week told their road department supervisor that there are a number of spots in the county that are not draining are becoming havens for mosquitoes. The largest spot was at old Carrabelle beach where Commissioner Bevin Putnal said the rain has created a fair sized lake. That area is lined with limerock so the water level is not dropping very quickly so road workers will likely have to go in and manually cut ditches to drain the site. Commissioner Pinki Jackal also pointed out that there are at least two sites on St. George Island that are also not draining correctly including a site near 6th street west and one near the St. George Island lighthouse.
