Alligator Point couple killed in house fire

An Alligator Point couple was killed in a house fire early Monday morning. Police say 80 year old AJ Thompson and his wife 71 year old Joyce Thompson were killed in a house fire at 593 Pine Street in Alligator Point. The fire was reported at 12:16 Monday morning; the caller said the home was already fully engulfed. The Alligator Point fire department was there within 12 minutes and discovered the house fully destroyed. The two bodies were found by firefighters and first responders – two dogs also died in the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state Fire Marshall’s office – though at this time its believed a space heater was the cause. The victims’ bodies have been taken to the Medical Examiners Office in Tallahassee for autopsies.
