Portions of the Apalachicola Bay will close to oyster harvesting at sunset today. The Department of Agriculture will close the conditionally winter west 2 area 1622 and the winter east area 1642 at sunset today. The closure is due to high water in the Apalachicola River from rainfall in the area over the past week. The river at Blountstown was measured above 13 feet on Monday – just below flood stage, but almost three feet higher than is needed to close areas of the bay to oyster harvesting. The river is expected to drop below 10 feet again at Blountstown late Thursday.
