If you are going swimming in the Gulf of Mexico this weekend you can do so feeling relatively sure that the water is clean. Franklin County is now in its 14th week with no swimming advisories which should be good news for the large number of visitors here for the 4th annual Spat Festival. Every week the Health Department takes water samples from 6 popular swimming areas in Franklin County including the St. George Island Public Beach and State park, from Carrabelle beach and from Alligator Point. They are looking for bacteria that could indicate a health hazard to humans. For over three months they have found no cause for concern from any of our local beaches. There were also no swimming advisories issued for Wakulla County this week. Gulf County did have one swimming advisory for St. Joe Monument Beach. That advisory has been in effect since September the 14th. If you would like to see swimming advisory results for yourself, you can follow the link we’ve set up on the news page at oysterradio.com.
