Franklin County seeks to remain a "Rural Area of Critical Economic Concern"

Franklin County commissioners have asked that the governor continue to designate Franklin County and seven other counties in the area as a “Rural Area of Critical Economic Concern.” The designation which Franklin County has enjoyed since 1999 gives our area greater access to the state’s economic development incentive programs. It’s designed to bring more businesses and economic development to the area. County commissioners adopted a resolution last week asking that the designation continue. The commission said the designation helps Franklin County in a number of ways which includes directing more state grant money to the area and providing waivers that allows counties in our area to apply for money they may not normally have access to.
