Franklin County’s unemployment rate declined very slightly between August and September. The local unemployment rate was 7.1 percent last month down from 7.2 percent in August. 331 Franklin County residents were looking for work last month, 12 fewer than the moth before. Even at 7.1 percent Franklin County has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Florida. Only Monroe, Walton and Liberty counties had unemployment rates lower than ours. The average unemployment rate in Florida was 11.2 percent in September. 40 of Florida’s 67 counties have unemployment rates above 10 percent with the highest unemployment in the state in Hendry county at 16.8 percent. Gulf County saw a big jump in unemployment last month from 9.1 to 9.8 percent. 630 people were jobless there in September up from 582 in August. Wakulla County’s unemployment remained stable at 7.2 percent – there are over 1100 people looking for work there and Liberty County continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in Florida at 5.3 percent.
