Governor Charlie Crist has asked that the Florida Public Service Commission delay a final vote on a rate increase for Progress energy Florida until next year when two new members will join the commission. The Florida Public Service commission is currently hearing arguments from Progress Energy Florida for a 500 million dollar base rate increase. The commission would likely issue a final ruling on the request in December. Governor Crist last week appointed David E. Klement of Bradenton and Benjamin Stevens of Pensacola to the commission; they will replace PSC Chairman Matthew Carter and Commissioner Katrina McMurrian. On Friday, Governor Charlie Crist asked that the commission wait until after January the 2nd to rule on the issue after the two new members join the board. Crist said in a letter to the PSC that given the impact the decision will have on Florida consumers he feels it is important that the new commissioners have the opportunity to fully participate in the process.
