Commercial fishing for greater amberjack ends Saturday

The commercial harvest of greater amberjack in the Gulf of Mexico will be closed beginning Saturday. The closure will extend through December 31st. NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service has determined the annual commercial quota of 503,000 pounds of greater amberjack has been reached and are closing the fishery to prevent overfishing. The closure covers federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico as well as state waters for vessels for which a federal reef fish permit has been issued.
