Franklin County commissioners welcome St. James Health and rehab center to town

County commissioners met with representatives of the St. James Health and Rehab center this week just to say hello and to welcome the center to Franklin County. The center, which is located near the St. James Bay Golf Course, began accepting patients in May. Currently it has 24 residents and 37 employees. The center expects to house 90 patients and when it’s fully staffed it will have 120 employees. The 39,000-square-foot building has four private rooms and 43 semiprivate rooms with two beds each. County commission chairman Smokey Parrish said the center provides a very need service – he said he thinks it will be well used and is well deserved by the people of Franklin County. Commissioner Cheryl Sanders agreed adding that a few years back Franklin County was the only county in Florida with no nursing home – and she’s glad we finally have one again. Center manager Lisa Mitchum presented the county with a card that the residents of the center had made and added that the center is always looking for volunteers
