Recreational fishermen will be allowed to target greater amberjack in federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico beginning January 1st. Federal waters extend beyond 9 nautical miles from shore in the Gulf off Florida.
The National Marine Fisheries Service closed the recreational harvest of greater amberjack in federal waters on October 24th because an established annual recreational harvest quota for greater amberjack in the Gulf had been met.
Recreational anglers may keep one greater amberjack of at least 30 inches fork length daily per person in Gulf waters off Florida, and the fish must be landed in a whole condition.
