Flood warnings continue as Apalachicola River passes 23 feet

Water levels in the Apalachicola River are expected to rise above 23 feet at Blountstown today which means moderate flooding along the river is possible in Franklin, Gulf, Calhoun and Liberty Counties in the next few days. It generally takes about 3 days for the higher waters to make its way from Blountstown to the mouth of the river and the Apalachicola Bay.

Flood stage for the Apalachicola River is 15 feet.

Franklin County has called for a voluntary evacuation for areas along the river for the area from Brickyard Road and continuing south along Highway 65.

Gulf County on Wednesday declared a state of emergency because of the potential for flooding. They expect that some roads in that county will have to be closed and some homes will flood.

All people with interests along the river should closely monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared to protect life and property. Do not walk or drive cars through flooded areas.
