Franklin County saw a big jump in its graduation rate last year but also saw its dropout rate rise to the highest in Florida.
Franklin County’s graduation rate for the 2008-2009 school year was 82.6 percent. That’s well up from the 2007 school year when it was listed at 56.3 percent, it’s also well above the statewide graduation average of 76.2 percent. Gulf County saw its graduation rate last year rise to 88.8 percent, up from 86.9 percent the year before – In Wakulla County the graduation rate rose from 75.8 percent to 79.3 percent.
Franklin County dropout rates, however, went way up from 2 percent 5.4 percent. That’s the highest dropout rate in Florida but well below 2005 when the local dropout rate hit 13.3 percent. The statewide dropout average last year was 2.3 percent. In Gulf County the dropout rate was 1.4 percent, In Wakulla County it was 2.9 percent.
