Franklin County to apply for 300 thousand in disaster recovery money

Franklin County is eligible for special disaster recovery funds that could help pay to elevate some flood prone sections of County Road 67 north of Carrabelle. The county is eligible for nearly 300 thousand dollars in Community Development Block Grant Funds because of impacts by Tropical storm Fay and Hurricanes Gustav and Ike in 2008.

If the county is awarded the money it will be used to elevate portions of County road 67 on each end of Pine Log Bridge. That section of the highway was flooded during Hurricane Gustav. The county engineer estimates it would cost just over 285 thousand dollars to the engineering and construction.

The county will have to get its application for the money in by January the 15th and will find out if they have been awarded the money by July.
