FWC keeps Barreto as chairman for another year

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has decided to keep its chairman for another year. The seven member board this week re-elected Rodney Barreto to continue as chairman through 2010. Commissioner Dick Corbett from Tampa will serve as vice chairman.

Barreto, of Miami, was appointed to the Commission in August 2001 and was reappointed in February 2007. This will be his fifth term as chairman. Corbett began his term on the FWC in 2003.

The board said it needed to keep its most experienced member as chairman because of other changes at the Fish and Wildlife Commission including a new executive director, assistant executive director, director of law enforcement and soon a new general counsel.

FWC Commissioners are appointed by the governor to five-year terms. They make decisions that guide conservation of Florida’s fish and wildlife resources.
