Oysterman arrested for giving false information to officers

Giving false information to a Fish and Wildlife officer can land you in jail as one local oysterman learned last week.

FWC Officers last week inspected oyster boats working on the bay – they were specifically looking for saltwater product license and Apalachicola Bay oyster permit violations. The officers were also trying to locate a harvester who had given false information to the day before.

When his vessel was boarded, the harvester supplied his brother’s name instead of his own, knowing that his brother had a valid license and permit. After locating the harvester the second time, he admitted that he provided false information the day before to avoid receiving a citation.

The harvester was arrested and taken to the Franklin County Jail where he was charged with giving a false name to a law enforcement officer, as well as with having no saltwater products license and no Apalachicola Bay oyster permit.
