Crist seeks to reinstate back to school sales tax holiday

Governor Charlie Crist said he would like to see the back to school tax holiday reinstated this year. In the past Florida has allowed stores to waive the sales tax for back to school supplies for at least a week in August. The sales tax holiday has not been allowed for the past two years because of very tight state budgets.

Governor Crist this week said he would like to see the tax holiday start again because it’s a great way to stimulate the economy and help Florida families save on clothing, books and school supplies, ensuring our next generation of doctors, scientists and teachers have the tools they need to be successful in the classroom.

Crist added that now is the time to be cutting taxes – to relieve the financial burden families and businesses are currently facing, and to improve the economic outlook of our state.
