Local counties get federal money to help hungry and homeless

FEMA has awarded $200 million dollars in federal funding to assist organizations dedicated to feeding, sheltering, and providing critical resources to our nation's hungry and homeless. The Funding was made available through the National Board of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program to support social service agencies in more than 2,500 cities and counties across the country.

Local counties got some of the money. Franklin County was awarded nearly 4700 dollars, that money will be distributed through the Big Bend Homeless Coalition. Gulf County will receive 8200 dollars; Wakulla County over 15 thousand dollars.

The grant funds are used to supplement food, shelter, rent, mortgage and utility assistance programs for people with non-disaster related emergencies.
