The Florida Public Service Commission has officially closed the docket on a plan to install central sewer in the commercial district of St. George Island.
The central sewer project was proposed last May as a way to help Island restaurants, many of which were using undersized or non-functioning septic systems. Central sewer proponents also felt central sewer may help stop many of the swimming advisories that have plagued St. George Island in recent years.
At the time Water Management Services proposed the sewer system, water company owner Gene Brown said he would stop his plans if the county asked him to. Commissioners agreed in November to request that the plans be scrapped. The board said they don’t feel a central sewer is needed right now because St. George Island has gone through much of 2009 with no swimming advisories.
The notice of dismissal was filed on December the 17th and officially accepted by the Florida Public Service Commission on December the 28th.
