
A 71-year-old grandmother vacationing on St. George Island was arrested and charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in the apparent drowning death of her 5-year-old grandson.
The Franklin County sheriff’s office said that they believe Marrianne Bordt drowned her grandson, Camden Hiers, in the bathtub while her husband, Heinz Bordt, was at the store Monday afternoon. Marianne Bordt was booked into the Franklin County jail at 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Both Bordt and her husband are German nationals. The grandson is from Roswell, Georgia.
Mrs. Bordt has been placed on suicide watch at the county jail.
The German consulate in Washington, D.C., was notified after the arrest.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating the apparent murder.
An autopsy was performed today by the Leon County medical examiner’s office.
Bordt had first appearance before Franklin County judge Van Russell this afternoon at the Franklin County Courthouse.
Judge Russell ordered that Mrs. Bordt be held without bond.
