Franklin County continues to seek reimbursement from BP for the work the county has done to defend itself from the BP oil gusher in the Gulf of Mexico.
Florida counties along the Gulf Coast have incurred nearly 9 million dollars in expenses for costs ranging from procuring and placing oil boom to hiring skimmers and monitoring waters for any sign of oil.
Franklin County’s expenses were reported at 565 thousand dollars in early June and are certainly higher now.
So far much of that expense has been covered by the company Calvin, Giordano and Associates which the county hired to oversee the local oil gusher response.
The county had asked last month that a letter be sent to BP demanding payment but that letter was never sent because Calvin, Giordano and Associates said that it felt that progress was being made on getting the payments approved.
As of last week, however, no payments had been received, though BP says it is working on every claim that's been filed from Escambia to Wakulla counties and continues to insist that all valid claims will be paid.
