Soldier to present US flag to Franklin County

Franklin County will soon own a US Flag which has been flown over Afghanistan in combat.

A soldier by the name of Billy Briscoe has told the county that he will present the flag to the county this summer with a request that it be flown over the county courthouse.

County commissioners said they will do even more than that and fly the flag over the courthouse, at the three servicemen statue in Apalachicola and at the soldier’s memorial in Carrabelle before putting the flag in a safe place so it can be preserved.

According to county administrator Alan Pierce, Mister Briscoe is currently serving in Afghanistan but will be back in the US in August to get married and buy a house at Alligator Point.
