There are no swimming advisories in Franklin County this weekend.
There were also no advisories issued for beaches in Wakulla County though moderate levels of the enterococcus bacteria were found at the beach at Mash’s Island.
Water sample results from Gulf County have not yet been released this week.
The Florida Department of Health tests 5 Franklin County beaches every week to see if there are bacteria in the water that could indicate a health danger to swimmers.
They also test 6 sites in Gulf County and two in Wakulla.
Besides looking for bacteria in the water, the Health Department is also monitoring Florida beaches for any sign of oil from the Deepwater Horizon oil gusher.
So far no beaches in our area have been affected by the oil.
The local tourist development council has begun issuing a daily beach report to reassure visitors that Franklin County is oil free and open for business.
You can see those daily beach reports on the news page at oysrerradio.com.
You can also find those beach reports plus much more local information at the TDC website at www.anaturalescape.com.
