Timber Island boat ramp reopens to public

The County boat ramp on Timber Island is once again open to the public.
The site has been off-limits to boaters since early June while it was being used as a primary launch area for County Oil Boom deployment.
Franklin County used the site to deploy nearly 92,000 feet of boom on the eastern end of the county.
Since the BP oil well has been capped, officials feel there is no longer a need to keep oil boom in the bay so they no longer need to use the Timber Island boat ramp for deployment.
The ramp is now once again open to the public at no charge 24 hours a day.
