The Northwest Florida Water Management District will take part in a 5 year study to look at the potential impacts of rising sea levels on aquatic resources.
The Water Management District has agreed to accept $215,000 in federal money to use tools that measure sea level rise.
The tools were developed by the University of Central Florida and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
These tools are intended to identify potential consequences of sea level rise so that the water district can adjust its plans to protect, preserve and restore critical resources.
The study will also help the Water Management District with its ongoing coastal flood hazard mapping study.
The district will receive a total of $46,100 during the first year of the study.
The District will have to provide $10,000 as an in-kind match over the five-year period of the study.
