The recreational red snapper season in Gulf of Mexico state and federal waters off Florida will reopen this Friday.
Recreational fishermen will be able to target red snapper for the next eight three-day weekends.
The extra weekend fishing days for Gulf red snapper were made possible because harvest levels of these fish were lower than expected this past summer because of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
During the extended season, fishermen, except for the captain and crew of for-hire vessels, can keep two red snapper greater than 16 inches total length per person
The season will end on Sunday, November the 21st.
